What CLI Anything Mermaid does
CLI Anything Mermaid is a command-line interface designed for generating, editing, and rendering Mermaid diagrams without the need for a graphical user interface. This tool is particularly useful for developers and designers who prefer to work in a terminal environment or need to automate the creation of visualizations. The CLI allows users to create stateful project files that can be easily manipulated and rendered using the mermaid.ink cloud service, providing a seamless integration for diagram generation.
The tool supports various diagram types, including flowcharts and sequence diagrams, and offers a range of commands for managing projects and diagrams. Users can create new projects, open existing ones, and save their work in JSON format. The interactive REPL mode enhances the user experience by allowing commands to be entered directly in a session, complete with tab-completion and command history, making it easier to work with complex diagrams.
In addition to basic diagram creation, the CLI provides advanced features such as undo and redo capabilities, enabling users to manage their diagram source changes effectively. The ability to render diagrams into SVG or PNG formats and generate shareable Mermaid Live Editor URLs adds further utility, making it easy to collaborate or present visualizations. This skill is ideal for power users and AI agents looking to integrate diagram generation into their workflows without relying on a GUI.
Overall, CLI Anything Mermaid empowers users to efficiently create and manage diagrams through a robust command-line interface, making it a valuable tool for anyone looking to enhance their documentation or visualization capabilities.

State Management
The CLI maintains session state with:
- Undo/Redo: Revert or replay diagram source changes
- Project persistence: Save/load project state as JSON
- Session tracking: Track modifications and changes
Output Formats
All commands support dual output modes:
- Human-readable (default): Tables, colors, formatted text
- Machine-readable (
--jsonflag): Structured JSON for agent consumption
# Human output
cli-anything-mermaid project info
# JSON output for agents
cli-anything-mermaid --json project info
For AI Agents
When using this CLI programmatically:
- Always use
--jsonflag for parseable output - Check return codes - 0 for success, non-zero for errors
- Parse stderr for error messages on failure
- Use absolute paths for all file operations
- Verify outputs exist after render operations
